Dave Shaw lives in a little log cabin, off the grid, in the boreal forest north of Fairbanks, Alaska. He earns a diverse living from a combination of working as a wildlife biologist, wilderness and naturalist guide, and as a freelance writer/photographer. He has an undergraduate degree from The Evergreen State College and a masters in wildlife biology from the University of Alaska. Kurt Shaw, the executive director of Shine a Light, is respected throughout South America as one of the continent's premier thinkers on children and social change. In addition to his work teaching marginalized children to make documentary and fictional films, he is an accomplished mountaineer, explorer, and skier.
